What is an email blacklist?
DNSBLs are public lists of IP addresses and domains that have shown up sending spam. Mail servers query these lists before accepting any mail — if you’re on it, your messages go straight to junk or get rejected entirely.
Why check blacklists regularly?
Listings often happen unnoticed:
- Hidden damage. You only notice when open rates start dropping.
- Shared-IP risk. On a small provider, one spammer on the same IP is enough.
- Domain listings. Even clean IPs don’t help if the domain itself is listed.
- Provider switch. After migrating to a new IP, listings often follow as legacy baggage.
